Writer's Comment
"Chaucer's story is really about three drunken revellers
who get their come-uppance because of greed. I've had to make
my version a lot nastier," reveals Tony Grounds. "You
can't just kill off people on TV these days for being greedy;
our threshold is a lot higher. I needed to make the central
characters very nasty pieces of work."
Original Tale
Set in Flanders, at the height of a black plague, Chaucer's
original was a relatively innocent tale of three greedy fools
and a pot of gold, with the moral that the love of money is
the root of all evil.
